ESI-ID

What is an ESI-ID?

Your ESI ID — or “Electric Service Identifier” — is a unique number assigned to every meter connected to a home or business in the state of Texas. This ESI ID number identifies where the electricity needs to go. Some addresses can have multiple ESI IDs — apartment complexes, for example — but each unit will still have a separate ESI ID.

Depending on where you live in Texas, you get to choose your electric provider. Some communities are served by a member-owned electricity cooperative or a municipal-owned utility, where electric choice is not available. To see whether there is electric choice in your area, our forms allow you to enter your Service address or ESI-ID.

Please be aware that only households that are in the Oncor, Centerpoint, AEP Central or TNMP service area can participate. Oncor, Centerpoint AEP Central and TNMP are the Transmission and Distribution Utilities, the ‘poles and wires company’.
